RedSquid

Giving Pay-TV operators control of the TV screen

About Us

RedSquid enables Pay-TV Operators to supply their customers with a TV which has the User Interface tailored for that Operator. The Operator remains in control of the customer viewing habits and gains better understanding the customer, enabling customer profiling and targeted advertising across the whole TV experience.

The result is customer retention, and improved Operator income.

Why is this needed?

Almost all TV sold today are monetised by the Smart-TV manufacturer. Smart-TVs are now the Pay-TV operator competitors. The Smart-TV will do everything it can to keep the customer inside the TV environment watching content the Smart-TV makes money from, rather than letting the customer swap to the Set Top Box.

The result is that the rise in Smart-TV has contributed to a decline in Pay-TV subscribers.

The RedSquid Solution

We enable the Operator to provide their customer with a TV that has the Operator content prioritised. The TVs are the exact same TV as used in mass market retail and are already in mass production at high volume. We simply take the required quantity of TVs from the production line and swap the software to the Operator-friendly TV software. This means the TV can be supplied at a highly competitive price. No special hardware is required and it has a very fast time to market.

Customer Pay-TV Contract

Usually the Operator will supply the TV to the customer complete with a bundled Pay-TV subscription on a Pay-TV contract. This locks the customer into the Operator for a minimum amount of time.

When the contract ends the customer can renew the contract and continue to use the Pay-TV functions. Alternatively the user might decide to cancel his subscription in which case the TV can switch off access to the Pay-TV features and revert to being a standard TV.

The TV will retain the ability to easily re-subscribe at any time.

How does it work?

The Customer places the order for the TV to the operator
The Operator passes the order on to the TV manufacturer (usually retaining a margin for the Operator)
The TV manufacturer ships the TV to the customer
The Operator can receive monetisation income from the TV. This can be managed by the Operator directly or by a RedSquid Partner
The Operator gains full control of the customer viewing experience

The TV User Interface

Most operators already have an App that works on a Smart-TV or mobile phone, or a existing Set Top Box User Interface. We can take that existing App or UI and convert it to use it as a complete TV UI. This means all the operator back-end platform and customer management controls are the same. No major development needed.

When the TV switches on it goes directly into that operator App. Effectively used as an Operator User Interface. Entering partner premium apps such as Netflix, Amazon Prime etc will be done from inside the operator controlled environment.

In addition to this extra data then the operator also has the opportunity for advertising and product promotion in the TV UI. We are working with AdTech companies who may offer additional revenue earning services to the Operator.

This means the operator has the option to monetise the TV in exactly the same way as Google, Amazon Samsung etc.
At all times the Operator remains in total control of the TV. All recurring revenue and data goes to the Operator. The RedSquid platform is provided on a Platform as a Service basis.
