FAQs
Everything you need to know about RedSquid’s white-label TV platform.
Core Proposition
RedSquid is a TV platform that enables Pay TV operators to supply customers with TVs whose entire user interface is tailored to the operator, not the TV manufacturer. The operator stays in control of viewing, data, and monetisation across the whole TV experience.
RedSquid is designed for Telcos and Pay TV operators who want to protect and grow their subscriber base and bring new revenue opportunities.
For Telcos with an existing Pay-TV service, RedSquid can reuse any existing TV apps or STB UIs and turn that UX into the primary TV interface.
For Telcos with no Pay-TV service, RedSquid TV can become a tool to offer financed TVs that are optimised to work on their broadband, through simple WiFi pairing, as well as integration with core networks, i.e. through multicast deployment.
In both cases, supplying a TV opens new revenue sources as new applications are added.
Most Smart TVs sold in retail are monetised by the manufacturer, who becomes a direct competitor to the operator for viewing time and revenue. These TVs try to keep customers inside OEM-controlled environments, contributing to Pay TV subscriber decline as users stay inside the TV’s own content ecosystem instead of switching to the set-top box.
RedSquid lets operators ship TVs where operator content and services are prioritised from power-on. The operator controls the home screen, navigation, data, and advertising, so recurring revenue and customer insights stay with the operator rather than with the OEM.
Product & Technology
No special hardware is needed. RedSquid uses the same mass-produced TVs sold in retail; the difference is that the stock software is swapped for operator-friendly TV software at the factory.
If required, the WiFi can be upgraded (or even MESH added) to optimise the TV for use on Telco broadband.
Physically it is the same device as the mass-market TV already in production. The difference is that software is replaced so that the operator’s UI and content are prioritised and the TV is monetised by the operator instead of the manufacturer.
If required, the WiFi can be upgraded (or even MESH added) to optimise the TV for use on Telco broadband.
Because RedSquid uses existing TV hardware and production lines, time to market is very fast compared to custom TV development. Operators simply order defined quantities from the manufacturer with RedSquid software preloaded.
The TV may have different WiFi fitted (even MESH) to enable the Operator-supplied TV to work better on the network than the retail-bought TV.
When the TV is switched on it goes directly into the operator app or UI, which is used as the complete TV interface. Premium partner apps such as Netflix or Amazon Prime are accessed from within that operator-controlled environment.
Yes. RedSquid can take an operator’s existing Smart TV or mobile app, or an existing set-top box UI, and convert it into a full TV UI. This means the operator can reuse their back-end platform and customer management systems without major re-development.
In most cases, operators continue to use their existing back-end platforms and customer management tools. RedSquid focuses on the TV UI and platform layer, minimising the need for back-end changes.
Yes, the RedSquid platform is provided on a Platform as a Service (PaaS) basis. This allows operators to benefit from ongoing platform evolution while keeping control of data and monetisation.
Commercial Model & Contracts
The customer orders the TV from the Pay TV operator, who usually retains a margin. The operator passes the order to the TV manufacturer, who ships directly to the customer.
Usually the operator supplies the TV bundled with a Pay TV subscription on a Pay TV contract. This locks the customer into the operator for a minimum term while the operator enjoys both subscription and TV-related monetisation.
At contract end, the customer can renew and continue to use the Pay TV functions. If they cancel, the TV switches off access to Pay TV features and reverts to a standard TV, but keeps the ability to easily re-subscribe later.
Yes. RedSquid enables operators to monetise the TV UI with advertising and product promotion opportunities. Operators can manage monetisation directly or through a RedSquid partner.
The platform is delivered on a Platform as a Service basis, and monetisation income from the TV can be managed by the operator or by a RedSquid partner. Specific commercial terms are agreed directly with each operator.
Data, Advertising & Partners
The operator remains in total control of the TV and the data generated. All recurring revenue and customer data flows to the operator, not to the Smart TV manufacturer.
Operators can include advertising slots and product promotion within the operator-controlled TV interface. The operator can manage this themselves, or if preferred, RedSquid also works with AdTech partners who can provide additional revenue-earning services for the operator.
Yes. RedSquid collaborates with AdTech companies that can extend monetisation beyond subscriptions, such as targeted advertising across the TV experience. These partners can help operators unlock new revenue streams inside their TV UI.
Deployment Status & Credibility
RedSquid TV is already shipping in 10s of 1000s of TVs in the MENA region, validating the robustness of the platform.
Multiple fully functional TVs have also been demonstrated at IBC 2025 in a variety of sizes with multiple different operator UIs.
Fully functional RedSquid TVs are available in multiple sizes, using TVs that are already in high-volume mass production. Operators select models that suit their customer base and price points. Today, two OEMs have contracted to deploy RedSquid, including Sharp Consumer Electronics.
RedSquid works with TV manufacturers, AdTech companies, and other platform partners to deliver the end-to-end solution. See our Partners page for more details.
Getting Started
Operators can reach out directly to discuss requirements and timelines. The typical next step is an initial conversation to align on commercial goals, TV models, and deployment options.
